Chicago Board of Trade soyabean futures ended mostly higher on Thursday on short covering and worries about the risk for a US frost to damage the autumn harvest, traders said. Front-month CBOT September soyabeans closed up 3-1/2 cents at $8.56-1/4 per bushel.

Trade estimates for first-day September soyabean deliveries on Friday ranged widely from zero to 700 contracts, with most expecting fewer than 500 lots. CBOT November soyabeans settled 2-3/4 cents higher at $8.68-1/2 per bushel. The most actively traded contract reached $8.73, its highest price since Aug. 22, before the market pared gains in late trading. CBOT December soyameal ended down $1.70 at $298 per short ton, and December soyaoil edged up 0.13 cent to 28.58 cents per pound.
